Damayantī’s Svayaṃvara: Divine Disguises, Truth-Vow, and Choosing Nala
ततस्ते शुश्रुवु: सर्वे नारदस्य वचो महत् | श्रुत्वैव चाब्रुवन् हृष्टा गच्छामो वयमप्युत,तदनन्तर उन सबने नारदजीकी ये विशिष्ट बातें सुनीं। सुनते ही वे सब-के-सब हर्षोल्लाससे परिपूर्ण हो बोले--“हमलोग भी उस स्वयंवरमें चलें”
tataste śuśruvuḥ sarve nāradasya vaco mahat | śrutvaiva cābruvan hṛṣṭā gacchāmo vayam apy uta ||
അപ്പോൾ അവർ എല്ലാവരും നാരദന്റെ മഹത്തായ വചനങ്ങൾ കേട്ടു. കേട്ടയുടൻ സന്തോഷത്തോടെ പറഞ്ഞു—“ഞങ്ങളും ആ സ്വയംവരത്തിലേക്ക് പോകാം.”
नारद उवाच
The verse highlights the persuasive force of wise counsel: when authoritative, meaningful speech is heard, it can quickly unify people in resolve and action—here, prompting an eager, collective decision to attend the svayaṃvara.
After Nārada speaks, everyone present listens attentively. Immediately, filled with joy, they respond that they too will go to the svayaṃvara, indicating a swift shift from hearing to enthusiastic participation.
