Educational Q&A

The verse highlights that disciplined conduct (vrata) and inner purity (śuddha manas) expressed through sincere service can ethically and spiritually qualify a person to receive higher instruction; merit is shown not by status but by self-restraint and intention.

Kuntī (Pṛthā), while living in a context of service, attends upon an austere Brahmin with steadfast discipline and a pure heart, thereby pleasing him—setting the stage for him to grant her a mantra as a reward for her devoted service.
