Chapter 270: Slaying of Prahasta; Defeat of Dhūmrākṣa; Awakening of Kumbhakarṇa
तेषां महेन्द्रोपमविक्रमाणां संरब्धानां धर्षणाद् याज्ञसेन्या: । क्रोध: प्रजज्वाल जयद्रथं च दृष्टवा प्रियां तस्य रथे स्थितां च
teṣāṃ mahendropama-vikramāṇāṃ saṃrabdhānāṃ dharṣaṇād yājñasenyāḥ | krodhaḥ prajajvāla jayadrathaṃ ca dṛṣṭvā priyāṃ tasya rathe sthitāṃ ca ||
മഹേന്ദ്രനോട് തുല്യമായ പരാക്രമമുള്ള ആ പാണ്ഡവർ യാജ്ഞസേനി ദ്രൗപദിയെ അപമാനിച്ചതെന്ന വാർത്ത കേട്ടതുമുതൽ ക്രോധത്തിൽ ജ്വലിച്ചിരുന്നു; എന്നാൽ ജയദ്രഥനെയും, അവന്റെ രഥത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്ന തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രിയ ദ്രൗപദിയെയും കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അവരുടെ കോപാഗ്നി അതിലും ഉഗ്രമായി പടർന്നു.

The verse frames anger as morally charged when it arises from witnessing adharma—here, the violation and humiliation of Draupadī. It highlights a kṣatriya-ethical response: righteous indignation should culminate in the protection of honor and the punishment of wrongdoing, not in aimless fury.
After hearing that Draupadī has been outraged, the Pāṇḍavas are already furious. When they directly see Jayadratha and Draupadī seated on his chariot, their wrath intensifies sharply, setting the stage for confrontation and the recovery of Draupadī.
