अर्जुनस्य वधे क्रूरां करोति सम तदा मतिम् । इधर कर्ण भी नरकासुरकी अन्तरात्मासे आविष्टचित्त होनेके कारण अर्जुनका वध करनेके लिये क्रूरतापूर्ण संकल्प करने लगा
arjunasya vadhe krūrāṁ karoti saṁ tadā matim |
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—അപ്പോൾ അവൻ അർജുനവധത്തിനായി കഠിനവും നിർദയവും ആയ തീരുമാനം എടുത്തു. നരകാസുരബന്ധമായ സ്വാധീനത്താൽ അന്തരത്തിൽ ആവിഷ്ടചിത്തനായി കർണൻ അർജുനനെ കൊല്ലുവാൻ ക്രൂരസങ്കൽപ്പത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിഞ്ഞു.
