Duryodhana Seized by Citraseṇa; Kaurava Petition to Yudhiṣṭhira (दुर्योधनापहारः / चित्रसेनगन्धर्वग्रहणम्)
avamanyati yaḥ siddhān kruddhāś cāpi śapanti yam | unmādyati sa tu kṣipraṁ jñeyaḥ siddhagrahas tu saḥ ||
The verse warns that contempt toward spiritually accomplished beings is a serious ethical fault: it invites destructive consequences, here framed as a curse leading to rapid mental derangement. The implied dharma is humility and reverence toward the holy and self-controlled.
Mārkaṇḍeya defines a specific kind of affliction—‘siddhagraha’—as a recognizable result when a person insults siddhas and, after being cursed by them in anger, quickly becomes mad. It functions as a diagnostic and moral explanation within the discourse.
