चित्रसेनगन्धर्वैः कौरवसंनिपातः

Citrasena and the Kaurava engagement

भेदिते च त्वयि विभो लोको द्वैधमुपेष्यति । द्विधाभूतेषु लोकेषु निश्चितेष्वावयोस्तथा,तस्मादिन्द्रो भवानेव भविता मा विचारय । प्रभो! यदि तुम फ़ूट जाओगे तो जगतके प्राणी दो भागोंमें बट जायँगे। महाबलवान्‌ वीर! सम्पूर्ण लोकोंके निश्चय ही दो दलोंमें बट जाने तथा लोगोंके द्वारा भेदबुद्धि उत्पन्न किये जानेपर हम लोगोंमें युद्ध प्रारम्भ हो सकता है। तात! उस युद्धमें जैसा कि मेरा विश्वास है, तुम्हीं विजयी होओगे। अतः तुम्हीं इन्द्र हो जाओ। इस विषयमें कोई दूसरी बात मत सोचो

bhidite ca tvayi vibho loko dvaidham upeṣyati | dvidhābhūteṣu lokeṣu niściteṣv āvayos tathā, tasmād indro bhavān eva bhavitā mā vicāraya |

ഇന്ദ്രൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ വിഭോ! നിനക്കുള്ളിൽ ഭേദം സംഭവിച്ചാൽ ലോകം രണ്ടായി പിരിയും. ലോകങ്ങൾ നിശ്ചയമായി—നിന്റെ പക്ഷവും എന്റെ പക്ഷവും—എന്ന് രണ്ട് പാളയങ്ങളായി വിഭജിക്കപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ, ഞങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ സംഘർഷം ആരംഭിക്കാം. അതിനാൽ നീ തന്നേ ഇന്ദ്രനാകുക; ഇനി ആലോചിക്കേണ്ട.

Division at the level of leadership or principle fractures society into opposing camps and can trigger destructive conflict; therefore, one should choose the course that preserves unity and stabilizes rightful order, even if it means yielding status or power.

Śakra (Indra) addresses a powerful being and warns that if that being becomes ‘split’ (i.e., divided in allegiance or identity), the worlds will polarize into two factions—one for each of them—leading to war. To avert such a cosmic schism, Śakra urges him to assume the position of Indra without further hesitation.
