वामदेव उवाच
This line is a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse; its function is to formally close a chapter and indicate the textual placement of the preceding episode. The ethical value is indirect: it frames the Mahābhārata’s instruction as organized teaching through episodes (upākhyānas) embedded within larger sections.
The narrator/editorial voice announces that the chapter dealing with the Maṇḍraka episode has concluded within the Mārkaṇḍeya-related section of the Vana Parva, preparing the reader for the next chapter or narrative unit.
