वैशम्पायनजी कहते है--जनमेजय! उस सौगन्धिक सरोवरके तटपर निवास करते हुए धर्मराज युधिष्ठिरने एक दिन ब्राह्मणों तथा द्रौपदीसहित अपने भाइयोंसे इस प्रकार कहा --
Vaiśampāyana uvāca—Janamejaya! tasmin saugandhika-sarovara-taṭe nivasan dharmarājaḥ Yudhiṣṭhiraḥ kadācit brāhmaṇaiḥ saha draupadyā ca saha svabhrātṝn evaṃ uvāca.
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു— ജനമേജയാ! ആ സൗഗന്ധിക സരോവരത്തിന്റെ തീരത്ത് വസിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കെ ധർമ്മരാജൻ യുധിഷ്ഠിരൻ ഒരു ദിവസം ബ്രാഹ്മണരുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ, ദ്രൗപദിയോടുകൂടി, തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോട് ഇപ്രകാരം പറഞ്ഞു—
