Approach to Śveta Mountain and Kailāsa; Lomāśa’s Warnings and Protective Instructions

yudhiṣṭhira uvāca—apūrvo ’yaṃ sambhramo lomaśasya kṛṣṇāṃ ca sarve rakṣata mā pramādam | deśo hy ayaṃ durgatamo mato ’sya tasmāt paraṃ śaucam ihācaradhvam ||

Educational Q&A

When circumstances become dangerous and uncertain, dharma requires heightened vigilance (apramāda), protection of those at risk, and strict self-restraint (śauca). Yudhiṣṭhira links external peril with the need for internal discipline.

Yudhiṣṭhira observes that the sage Lomaśa is unusually alarmed, infers imminent danger in a harsh and difficult region, and instructs his companions to guard Draupadī carefully and to maintain the highest standards of pure and disciplined conduct.
