The passage frames pilgrimage as a dharmic practice: sacred places are described not merely as geography but as moral-spiritual landscapes where divine presence is remembered, encouraging reverence, restraint, and inner purification.
Lomasa, guiding Yudhiṣṭhira during the forest pilgrimage, points out Mount Kailāsa—described as a divine gathering place—and indicates the nearby sacred locality called Viśālā, associated in the note with the Badarikāśrama tīrtha.
