The Arrival of Maitreya and the Admonition to Duryodhana
sṛjantaṃ rākṣasīṃ māyāṃ mahānādanināditam | muñcantaṃ vipulān nādān satoyam iva toyadam ||
The verse highlights how māyā—deceptive display and intimidation—can overwhelm perception and generate fear. Ethically, it cautions that loud spectacle and terror are not signs of true strength or dharma; discernment is needed to see through manipulative appearances.
Vidura is describing a frightening scene: someone is generating a rākṣasa-like illusion and producing huge, reverberating roars, compared to the booming of a rain-cloud. The emphasis is on the atmosphere of dread created by sound and magical deception.
