कण्वोपदेशः—नश्वरबलविवेकः तथा मातलिगुणकेश्याः आख्यानारम्भः

अल्पीयांसं विशिष्ट वा तत् ते राजन् समाहितम् | “राजन! आजसे फिर कभी घमंडमें आकर अपनेसे बड़े या छोटे किन्हीं राजाओंपर किसी प्रकार भी आक्षेप न करना। इस बातके लिये मैंने तुम्हें सावधान कर दिया ।।
alpīyāṁsaṁ viśiṣṭa vā tat te rājan samāhitam | kṛtaprajño vītalobho nirahaṅkāra ātmavān ||
രാമൻ പറഞ്ഞു—“ഹേ രാജാവേ! ഈ വാക്ക് ഹൃദയത്തിൽ ഉറപ്പിക്കൂ—ഇനി ഒരിക്കലും ദർപ്പത്തിൽ പെട്ട് നിനക്കാൾ വലിയോ ചെറുതോ ആയ ഏതൊരു രാജാവിനെയും ഏതുവിധത്തിലും കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്തരുത്. നിന്റെ നന്മയ്ക്കായാണ് ഞാൻ മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നൽകുന്നത്. സ്ഥിരബുദ്ധിയോടെ, ലാഭലോഭമില്ലാതെ, അഹങ്കാരരഹിതനായി, ആത്മസംയമത്തോടെ വിനയത്തിൽ പ്രജകളെ പാലിക്കൂ; മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ ബലാബലം അറിയാതെ ആരെയും കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്തരുത്.”
