अध्याय ८ — शल्यस्य सत्कारः, वरदानं, पाण्डवसमागमश्च (Śalya’s Reception, the Boon, and Meeting the Pāṇḍavas)

दुर्योधन उवाच सत्यवाग्‌ भव कल्याण वरो वै मम दीयताम्‌ | सर्वसेनाप्रणेता वै भवान्‌ भवितुमहति,दुर्योधनने कहा--कल्याणस्वरूप महानुभाव! आपकी बात सत्य हो। आप मुझे अवश्य वर दीजिये। मैं चाहता हूँ कि आप मेरी सम्पूर्ण सेनाके अधिनायक हो जायेँ

duryodhana uvāca satyavāg bhava kalyāṇa varo vai mama dīyatām | sarvasenāpraṇetā vai bhavān bhavitum arhati ||

ദുര്യോധനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—“കല്യാണസ്വരൂപനായ മഹാനുഭാവാ! നിങ്ങളുടെ വാക്ക് സത്യമാകട്ടെ; എനിക്ക് വരം നൽകണം. എന്റെ സമസ്ത സേനയുടെ നേതാവും സേനാധിപനുമായിരിക്കുവാൻ നിങ്ങൾ തന്നെയാണ് യോഗ്യൻ.”
