नित्योद्विग्नमिदं सर्व नित्योद्विग्नमिदं मन: । यत्‌ तत्‌ पदमनुद्धिग्नं तन्मे वद महामते,महामते! यह सब कुछ सदा ही भयसे उद्विग्न है, मेरा यह मन भी भयसे उद्दिग्न है; इसलिये जो उद्वेगशून्य और शान्त पद (मार्ग) हो, वही मुझे बताओ

dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca | nityodvignam idaṁ sarvaṁ nityodvignam idaṁ manaḥ | yat tat padam anudvignaṁ tan me vada mahāmate ||

ധൃതരാഷ്ട്രൻ പറഞ്ഞു—മഹാമതേ! ഇതെല്ലാം നിത്യവും ആശങ്കയാൽ വിറയ്ക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ മനസ്സും നിത്യവും കലങ്ങുന്നു. അതിനാൽ കലക്കമില്ലാത്തതും ശാന്തി നൽകുന്നതുമായ ആ പദം—ആ മാർഗം—എനിക്ക് പറഞ്ഞു തരിക।
