Udyoga Parva, Adhyaya 31 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Instructions to Sañjaya
Peace Appeal and Five-Village Proposal
samprāpya hāstinapuraṁ śīghram eva praviśya ca | antaḥpuraṁ samāsthāya dvāḥsthaṁ vacanam abravīt || 2 ||
The verse highlights maryādā (proper conduct) and discretion: even in urgent missions, one approaches the inner quarters through the appropriate intermediary (the gatekeeper), respecting boundaries and royal protocol.
A messenger/visitor arrives at Hāstinapura, enters the palace swiftly, comes near the inner apartments, and communicates his purpose to the doorkeeper to gain proper access or convey a message.
