अध्याय २९ — वासुदेव–संजय संवादः
Karma, Varṇa-Dharma, and the Ethics of Governance
न मर्मगां जातु वक्तासि रूक्षां नोपश्रुतिं कटुकां नोत मुक्ताम् । धर्मारामामर्थवतीमहिंस्रा- मेतां वाचं तव जानीम सूत
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca |
na marmagāṃ jātu vaktāsi rūkṣāṃ nopśrutiṃ kaṭukāṃ nota muktām |
dharmārāmām arthavatīm ahiṃsrām etāṃ vācaṃ tava jānīma sūta, sūta ||
യുധിഷ്ഠിരൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ സൂതാ, മർമ്മത്തെ തൊടുന്ന വിധത്തിൽ രൂക്ഷമായോ കഠിനമായോ, അല്ലെങ്കിൽ അശ്രദ്ധയിൽ വിട്ടുപോയോ ഉള്ള വാക്കുകൾ നീ ഒരിക്കലും ഉച്ചരിക്കുകയില്ല. നീ ശുഷ്കമോ പ്രസക്തിയില്ലാത്തതോ ആയ വാക്കുകളും പറയുന്നില്ല. നിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ ധർമ്മാനുസൃതം—സജ്ജനർക്കു പ്രിയം, അർത്ഥവത്തും, ഹിംസാഭാവരഹിതവും ആണെന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾ നന്നായി അറിയുന്നു.
