Droṇa–Vidura–Gāndhārī Counsel in the Royal Assembly (धर्मार्थयुक्ता सभा-उपदेश-प्रकरणम्)
ऊर्ध्वरेता हरराजा च कुलस्यार्थे पुन: पुन: । विशेषतस्त्वदर्थ च धुरि मा मां नियोजय,फिर माता सत्यवतीसे कहा--'माँ! मैंने इस कुलकी वृद्धिके लिये और विशेषतः तुम्हें ही यहाँ ले आनेके लिये राजा न होने और नैछ्लिक ब्रह्मचारी रहनेकी बारंबार प्रतिज्ञा की है। अतः तुम इस राज्यका बोझ सँभालनेके लिये मुझे नियुक्त न करो”
ūrdhvaretaḥ hararājā ca kulasyārthe punaḥ punaḥ | viśeṣatas tvadarthe ca dhuri mā māṃ niyojaya ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു— രാജാവേ, കുലത്തിന്റെ നന്മയ്ക്കായും പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് നിന്റെ കാര്യമെന്ന നിലയ്ക്കും ഞാൻ വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും ജീവിതാന്തം ബ്രഹ്മചര്യം പാലിച്ച് രാജ്യം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുമെന്നു പ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു. അതിനാൽ സിംഹാസനഭാരം വഹിക്കാൻ എന്നെ നിയോഗിക്കരുത്.
