जातिं देशं च सत्यं च माहात्म्यं भरतर्षभ | धर्म वृत्ति च विज्ञाय क्षत्रियाणां नराधिप
jātiṃ deśaṃ ca satyaṃ ca māhātmyaṃ bharatarṣabha | dharmavṛttiṃ ca vijñāya kṣatriyāṇāṃ narādhipa rājan bharataśreṣṭha ||
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു— ഹേ ഭരതശ്രേഷ്ഠ രാജാവേ! മഹാഭാരതകഥ ആരംഭിച്ച ശേഷം, ഓരോ പർവ്വത്തിലും ക്ഷത്രിയരുടെ ജാതി, ദേശം, സത്യനിഷ്ഠ, മഹാത്മ്യം, കൂടാതെ ധർമ്മവും ആചാരവൃത്തിയും മനസ്സിലാക്കി, ബ്രാഹ്മണർക്കു ഏതു ഏതു അർപ്പണങ്ങൾ നൽകേണ്ടതാണോ, അതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ വിവരിക്കുന്നു.
