Gāndhārī’s Viewing of Vaikartana/Karṇa
'प्राणनाथ! निश्चय ही तुमपर आचार्यका दिया हुआ शाप लागू हो गया, जिससे इस पृथ्वीने तुम्हारे रथके पहियेको ग्रस लिया, तभी युद्धमें शोभा पानेवाले अर्जुनने रणभूमिमें अपने बाणसे तुम्हारा सिर काट लिया” ।। हाहा धिगेषा पतिता विसंज्ञा समीक्ष्य जाम्बूनदबद्धकक्षम् कर्ण महाबाहुमदीनसत्त्वं सुषेणमाता रुदती भृशार्ता,हाय! हाय! मुझे धिक्कार है। सुवर्ण-कवचधारी उदार हृदय महाबाहु कर्णको इस अवस्थामें देखकर अत्यन्त आतुर हो रोती हुई सुषेणकी माता मूर्च्छिंत होकर गिर पड़ी
prāṇanātha! niścaya hi tumapar ācāryakā diyā huā śāpa lāgū ho gayā, jisase is pṛthvīne tumhāre rathake pahiyeko grasa liyā, tabhī yuddhameṃ śobhā pānevāle arjunane raṇabhūmimeṃ apane bāṇase tumhārā śira kāṭ liyā. hā hā dhig eṣā patitā visaṃjñā samīkṣya jāmbūnadabaddhakakṣam karṇa mahābāhum adīnasattvaṃ suṣeṇamātā rudatī bhṛśārtā, hāya! hāya! mujhe dhikkār hai. suvarṇa-kavacadhārī udār hṛdaya mahābāhu karṇako is avasthāmeṃ dekhakar atyanta ātura ho rotī huī suṣeṇakī mātā mūrcchita hokar gir paṛī.
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—“പ്രാണനാഥാ! ആചാര്യൻ നൽകിയ ശാപം നിനക്കു നിശ്ചയമായും ഫലിച്ചു; അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഭൂമി നിന്റെ രഥചക്രത്തെ ഗ്രസിച്ചത്. പിന്നെ യുദ്ധത്തെ ശോഭിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ധനഞ്ജയൻ (അർജുനൻ) रणഭൂമിയിൽ തന്റെ അമ്പുകൊണ്ട് നിന്റെ ശിരസ് വെട്ടി വീഴ്ത്തി.” സ്വർണ്ണാഭരണങ്ങളാൽ കട്ടിബദ്ധനായ, ഉദാരഹൃദയൻ, മഹാബാഹു, അചഞ്ചല സത്ത്വമുള്ള കര്ണനെ ആ നിലയിൽ കണ്ടു, സുഷേണന്റെ മാതാവ് അത്യന്തം വ്യാകുലയായി കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട്—“ഹാ! ഹാ! എനിക്ക് ധിക്കാരം!” എന്നു വിളിച്ചു; ദുഃഖത്തിൽ മയങ്ങി ഭൂമിയിൽ വീണു.
