मम धर्मबलिं दत्त किं वा मां प्रतिपत्स्थथ । ते चेत्‌ तमागतं तत्र वृणुयु: कुशलं भवेत्‌

Transliteration

mama dharmabaliṁ datta kiṁ vā māṁ pratipatsthatha | te cet tam āgataṁ tatra vṛṇuyuḥ kuśalaṁ bhavet ||

Translation

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—രാജാവേ! ധർമ്മപ്രകാരം നൽകേണ്ട ബലി (കരം) എനിക്ക് നൽകുക; അല്ലെങ്കിൽ യുദ്ധത്തിൽ എന്നെ പ്രതിരോധിക്കുക. ഞാൻ അവിടെ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ആ ദേശത്തിലെ ജനങ്ങൾ വന്ന രാജാവിനെ തങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവായി സ്വീകരിച്ചാൽ, എല്ലാവർക്കും ക്ഷേമവും ക്രമവും നിലനിൽക്കും.
