सान्त्व-निति: (Sāntva-Nīti) — The One-Word Principle of Conciliation
तस्मात् सान्त्व॑ प्रयोक्तव्यं दण्डमाधित्सतो5पि हि । फल॑ं च जनयत्येवं न चास्योद्धिजते जन:
tasmāt sāntvaṁ prayoktavyaṁ daṇḍam ādhitsato 'pi hi | phalaṁ ca janayaty evaṁ na cāsyoddvijate janaḥ ||
അതുകൊണ്ട് ശിക്ഷ ഏർപ്പെടുത്താൻ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്ന രാജാവും ആദ്യം സാന്ത്വനപൂർണ്ണമായ മധുരവചനങ്ങളേ പ്രയോഗിക്കണം. അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്താൽ അവന്റെ ലക്ഷ്യം സിദ്ധിക്കും; അവന്റെ കാരണത്താൽ ആരും വ്യാകുലനോ ഭീതനോ ആകുകയില്ല.
