आधार तु प्रवक्ष्यामि एकस्य पुरुषस्य ते । बहूनां पुरुषाणां स यथैका योनिरुच्यते,मैं तुम्हें उस एक पुरुषके सम्बन्धमें बताऊँगा, जो सबका आधार है और जिस प्रकार वह बहुत-से पुरुषोंका एकमात्र कारण बताया जाता है

ādhāraṃ tu pravakṣyāmi ekasya puruṣasya te | bahūnāṃ puruṣāṇāṃ sa yathaikā yonir ucyate ||

ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ നിന്നോട് ആ ഏക പുരുഷനെക്കുറിച്ച് പറയും—അവൻ തന്നെയാണ് എല്ലാറ്റിന്റെയും ആധാരം; അനേകം പുരുഷന്മാർക്കും അവൻ തന്നെയാണ് ഏക കാരണം, ഒരേയൊരു യോനി എന്നു എങ്ങനെ പറയപ്പെടുന്നു എന്നതും വിശദീകരിക്കും।

Bhīṣma introduces a metaphysical doctrine: behind the multiplicity of individual persons stands a single foundational Reality (puruṣa) that is the support of all and is described as the one causal source (yoni) of the many.
