Educational Q&A

That sacrificial offerings and the deities’ portions are not arbitrary: they are to be fixed according to Vedic injunction, upholding dharma and the ordered reciprocity between humans and gods.

Vaiśampāyana reports a statement addressed to the gods: humans across the worlds will continue performing sacrifices and will assign the gods their due portions as the Veda prescribes; the passage then transitions into a continuation about how a particular share was assigned in a great sacrifice.
