तस्य प्रियं करिष्यामि स हि मामाश्रित: सदा । भ्राता मे बान्धवश्चासौ सखा च हृदयज्भम:,वे मन ही-मन कहने लगे, “यह केवल जन्मसे ही ब्राह्मण है; परंतु महात्मा राजधर्माका सुहृद् है। उन कश्यपकुमारने ही इसे यहाँ मेरे पास भेजा है; अतः उनका प्रिय कार्य अवश्य करूँगा। वह सदा मुझपर भरोसा रखता है और मेरा भाई, बान्धव तथा हार्दिक मित्र भी है
tasya priyaṁ kariṣyāmi sa hi mām āśritaḥ sadā | bhrātā me bāndhavaś cāsau sakhā ca hṛdayaṅgamaḥ ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—‘ഞാൻ അവനു പ്രിയമായ കാര്യം ചെയ്യും; കാരണം അവൻ എപ്പോഴും എന്നെ ആശ്രയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. അവൻ എന്റെ സഹോദരനും ബന്ധുവും ഹൃദയസഖാവുമാണ്।’
