Śānti-parva 168: Śoka-nivṛtti-buddhi (The Cognition that Reduces Grief) and Piṅgalā’s Nairāśya

अनर्थस्य न कामो<स्ति तथार्थो5धर्मिण: कुत: । तस्मादुद्धिजते लोको धर्मार्थाद्‌ यो बहिष्कृत:

anarthasya na kāmo 'sti tathārtho 'dharmiṇaḥ kutaḥ | tasmād udvijate loko dharmārthād yo bahiṣkṛtaḥ ||

വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ധനം ഇല്ലാത്തവന് ആഗ്രഹസിദ്ധി ഉണ്ടാകില്ല; അധർമ്മിക്ക് ധനം എവിടെ നിന്ന് ലഭിക്കും? അതിനാൽ ധർമ്മസഹിതമായ സമൃദ്ധിയിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്താക്കപ്പെട്ടവനെ ലോകം ആശങ്കയോടെയും ജാഗ്രതയോടെയും കാണുന്നു.
