मुक्तश्न व्यसनादस्मात् सौम्याहमपि नाम ते । प्रीतिमुत्पादयेयं च प्रीतिकर्तुश्न॒ सत्क्रियाम्,'सौम्य! इस विपत्तिसे छुटकारा पानेपर मैं भी तुम्हारे हृदयमें प्रीति उत्पन्न करूँगा। तुम मेरा प्रिय करनेवाले हो, अतः तुम्हारा भलीभाँति आदर-सत्कार करूँगा
muktaś ca vyasanād asmāt, saumyāham api nāma te | prītim utpādayeyaṃ ca, prītikartuś ca satkriyām ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—സൗമ്യാ! ഈ ദുരിതത്തിൽ നിന്ന് മോചിതനായാൽ, ഞാനും നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ സ്നേഹം ഉണർത്തും; നീ എന്നെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിച്ചതിനാൽ, നിന്നെ യഥോചിതമായ ആദരവും আতിഥ്യസത്കാരവും നൽകി ബഹുമാനിക്കും.
