शीलस्य तत्त्वमिच्छामि वेत्तुं कौरवनन्दन । प्राप्पते च यथा शीलं त॑ं चोपायं वदस्व मे,भीष्मजी कहते हैं--'युधिष्ठिर! यों कहकर लक्ष्मी तथा वे शील आदि समस्त सदगुण इन्द्रके पास चले गये। इस कथाको सुनकर दुर्योधनने पुनः अपने पितासे कहा --'कौरवनन्दन! मैं शीलका तत्त्व जानना चाहता हूँ। शील जिस तरह प्राप्त हो सके, वह उपाय भी मुझे बताइये”

śīlasya tattvam icchāmi vettum kauravanandana | prāpyate ca yathā śīlaṃ taṃ copāyaṃ vadasva me ||

‘കൗരവനന്ദനാ! ശീലത്തിന്റെ തത്ത്വം അറിയാൻ ഞാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു. ശീലം ലഭിക്കുന്ന ഉപായവും എനിക്ക് പറഞ്ഞുതരുക.’
