व्यवहारस्तु वेदात्मा वेदप्रत्यय उच्यते । मौलश्न नरशार्दूल शास्त्रोक्तश्न तथा पर:

Transliteration

vyavahāras tu vedātmā vedapratyaya ucyate | maulaś ca naraśārdūla śāstroktas ca tathā paraḥ ||

Translation

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു— ലോകവ്യവഹാരത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവ് വേദം തന്നെയാണ്; അതിനാൽ അതിനെ ‘വേദപ്രത്യയം’ എന്നു പറയുന്നു. എന്നാൽ, ഹേ നരശാർദൂല, ഒരു ‘മൗല’ (മൂല/പരമ്പരാഗത) മാനദണ്ഡവും ഉണ്ട്; അതുപോലെ ശാസ്ത്രോക്തമായ മറ്റൊരു മാനദണ്ഡവും ഉണ്ട്—ധർമ്മവും ന്യായവും സംബന്ധിച്ച വിധികളിൽ ഇവ മാർഗദർശകങ്ങളാകുന്നു.
