तस्यर्षेरुपविष्टस्थ पादमूले महामते । मनुष्यवद्गतो भावो स्नेहबद्धों& भवद् भूशम्,महामते! उन महर्षिके चरणप्रान्तमें बैठे हुए उस कुत्तेके मनमें मनुष्यके समान भाव (स्नेह) हो गया। वह उनके प्रति अत्यन्त स्नेहसे बँध गया
tasyarṣer upaviṣṭastha-pādamūle mahāmate | manuṣyavad gato bhāvo sneha-baddho ’bhavad bhūśam ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—മഹാമതേ! ആ മഹർഷിയുടെ പാദമൂലത്തിൽ ഇരുന്ന ആ നായയുടെ ഉള്ളിൽ മനുഷ്യനുപോലെ സ്നേഹഭാവം ഉദിച്ചു. അതു ഋഷിയോടു അത്യന്തം പ്രീതിയാൽ ദൃഢമായി ബന്ധിതമായി.
