Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how overwhelming grief can drive a person to self-destructive extremes. Ethically, it invites reflection on restraint (dama), clarity of judgment (viveka), and the need to uphold dharma even amid unbearable loss.

A woman who had prepared a pile of firewood for a blaze sees that the wood has been fully consumed. Noticing the fire now lacks fuel, she proceeds to burn her own body in it, intensifying the scene’s pathos and finality.
