As a colophon, the verse primarily teaches textual discipline: it marks the end of a chapter and frames the episode’s ethical focus—combat (especially mace-fighting) is not merely violence but is governed by rules and oversight, here underscored by Baladeva’s arrival as a figure linked with restraint and propriety in martial conduct.
This line concludes Adhyāya 34 of the Śalya Parva, specifying that the chapter belongs to the Gadā Parvan and concerns Baladeva’s arrival, thereby closing one narrative unit and preparing the reader for the next development in the mace-fight sequence.
