धनुश्लास्य शिताग्रेण बाणेन निरकृन्तत । युद्ध करते समय युधिष्ठिरके लिये सब कुछ प्रदक्षिण (अनुकूल) हो रहा था। तदनन्तर शल्यने युधिष्ठिरपर सौ बाणोंका प्रहार किया तथा तीखी धारवाले बाणसे उनके धनुषको भी काट दिया

dhanuḥ ślāṣya śitāgreṇa bāṇena nirakṛntata |
സഞ്ജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—മൂർച്ചയുള്ള അഗ്രമുള്ള അമ്പുകൊണ്ട് അവൻ ധനുസ്സിന്റെ ഞാണം മുറിച്ചു; ധനുസ്സും ഛേദിച്ചു. ആ നിമിഷം യുദ്ധത്തിൽ യുധിഷ്ഠിരന് എല്ലാം അനുകൂലമാകുന്നതുപോലെ തോന്നി; എന്നാൽ ഉടൻ തന്നെ ശല്യൻ യുധിഷ്ഠിരനെ നൂറ് അമ്പുകളാൽ വേദിച്ചു, മൂർച്ചയുള്ള ധാരയുള്ള അമ്പുകൊണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ധനുസ്സും മുറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു।
