परिवार्य रथै: शल्यं पीडयामासुराहवे । संजय कहते हैं--आर्य! जब मद्रराज शल्य धर्मराज युधिष्ठिरको पीड़ा देने लगे, तब सात्यकि, भीमसेन और माद्रीपुत्र पाण्डव नकुल-सहदेवने युद्धस्थलमें शल्यको रथोंद्वारा घेरकर उन्हें पीड़ा देना प्रारम्भ किया ।।
parivārya rathaiḥ śalyaṃ pīḍayāmāsur āhave | taṃ ekaṃ bahubhir dṛṣṭvā pīḍyamānaṃ mahārathaiḥ ||
സഞ്ജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—യുദ്ധമദ്ധ്യേ രഥങ്ങളാൽ ശല്യനെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റി അവർ അവനെ ശക്തമായി അമർത്തി. ഒറ്റയ്ക്കുള്ള ശല്യൻ അനേകം മഹാരഥന്മാർക്കാൽ പീഡിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതു കണ്ടപ്പോൾ എല്ലാടവും മഹത്തായ സാധുവാദം ഉയർന്നു; അവിടെ കൂടിയ സിദ്ധന്മാരും മഹർഷിമാരും ആനന്ദത്തോടെ “ആശ്ചര്യം!” എന്നു വിളിച്ചു.
