Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report
धिगस्तु कृतवर्माणं मां कृपं च महारथम्
dhig astu kṛtavarmāṇaṁ māṁ kṛpaṁ ca mahāratham
സഞ്ജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—കൃതവർമ്മനോട് ധിക്കാരം; എനിക്കും ധിക്കാരം; ആ മഹാരഥൻ കൃപനോടും ധിക്കാരം.
संजय उवाच
Even in war, actions can be judged against dharma; this line voices moral condemnation and self-implication, highlighting accountability and the sense that certain deeds—especially those seen as treacherous or ignoble—bring disgrace.
During the Sauptika Parva’s aftermath of the night events, Sañjaya reports a reaction of censure: he denounces Kṛtavarmā and Kṛpa and includes himself in the blame, signaling that what occurred is viewed as shameful despite the wartime setting.
