शास्त्र न शास्ति दुर्बुद्धिं श्रेयसे चेतराय च | न वै वृद्धो बालमतिर्भवेद्‌ राजन्‌ कथंचन,“राजन! जिसकी बुद्धि खोटी है, उसे शास्त्र भी भला-बुरा कुछ नहीं सिखा सकता। मन्दबुद्धि बालक वृद्धों-जैसा विवेकशील किसी प्रकार नहीं हो सकता

śāstraṁ na śāsti durbuddhiṁ śreyase cetarāya ca | na vai vṛddho bālamatir bhaved rājan kathaṁcana ||

വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—രാജാവേ, ദുർബുദ്ധിയുള്ളവനെ ശാസ്ത്രം നന്മയിലേക്കും നയിക്കുകയില്ല; അനർത്ഥത്തിൽ നിന്ന് പിന്തിരിപ്പിക്കുകയുമില്ല. ബാലബുദ്ധിയുള്ളവൻ ഒരിക്കലും മുതിർന്നവരെപ്പോലെ വിവേകിയാകുകയില്ല.
