अध्याय ९ — कर्णस्य प्रहारः, योधयुग्मनियोजनम्, शैनेय-कैकेययोर्युद्धविन्यासः
उपतिष्ठस्व भर्तारिमन्यं वा वरवर्णिनि । इत्येवं यः पुरा वाचो रूक्षाश्नाआरवयद् रुषा
upatiṣṭhasva bhartārim anyaṁ vā varavarṇini | ityevaṁ yaḥ purā vāco rūkṣāś cārvayad ruṣā ||
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു— “ഹേ സുന്ദരവർണ്ണിനീ! നിന്റെ ഭർത്താവിനെ സേവിക്ക; അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഇഷ്ടമെങ്കിൽ മറ്റൊരാളെ.” ഇങ്ങനെ അവൻ പണ്ടൊരിക്കൽ ക്രോധത്തിൽ രൂക്ഷവചനങ്ങൾ ഉച്ചരിച്ചു, കഠിനവാക്കുകളാൽ അവളെ വേദനിപ്പിച്ചു.
