Adhyāya 35 — Bhīmasena’s Counter-Encirclement and the Karṇa Engagement Escalation
कर्णस्य यच्छ संग्रामे मद्रराज हयोत्तमान् । त्वयाभिगुप्तो राधेयो विजेष्यति धनंजयम्,“मद्रराज! आप संग्राममें कर्णके इन उत्तम घोड़ोंको वशमें कीजिये। आपसे सुरक्षित होकर राधापुत्र कर्ण निश्चय ही अर्जुनको जीत लेगा”

karṇasya yaccha saṅgrāme madrarāja hayottamān |
tvayābhigupto rādheyo vijeṣyati dhanañjayam ||
മദ്രരാജാവേ! യുദ്ധത്തിൽ കർണന്റെ ഈ ഉത്തമാശ്വങ്ങളെ നിയന്ത്രിക്കണമേ. നിന്റെ സംരക്ഷണത്തിൽ രാധേയൻ ധനഞ്ജയനെ നിശ്ചയമായും ജയിക്കും।
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights that success in warfare is not merely individual heroism; it depends on disciplined control (especially of the chariot and horses), protection by capable allies, and coordinated execution—suggesting an ethical and practical emphasis on responsibility and teamwork amid conflict.
Sanjaya addresses the king of Madra (Śalya), urging him to control Karna’s superior horses during the battle. He asserts that with Śalya’s protection and skilled handling, Karna (Radheya) will be able to defeat Arjuna (Dhananjaya).
