कर्णपर्व — पञ्चदशोऽध्यायः | Karṇa Parva, Chapter 15: Pāṇḍya’s Advance and Aśvatthāmā’s Counterstroke
अश्वत्थाम्न: शरानस्तान् छित्त्वैकैकं त्रिधा त्रिधा । व्यधमद् भरतश्रेष्ठो निहारमिव मारुत:,ऐसा कहकर भरतश्रेष्ठ अर्जुनने अश्वत्थामाके चलाये हुए उन बाणोंमेंसे प्रत्येकके तीन- तीन टुकड़े करके उन सबको उसी प्रकार नष्ट कर दिया, जैसे हवा कुहरेको उड़ा देती है
aśvatthāmnaḥ śarān astān chittvaikaikaṃ tridhā tridhā | vyadhamad bharataśreṣṭho nihāram iva mārutaḥ ||
അങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞ് ഭാരതശ്രേഷ്ഠനായ അർജുനൻ അശ്വത്ഥാമൻ വിട്ട ഓരോ അമ്പിനെയും വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും മൂന്നു കഷണങ്ങളാക്കി വെട്ടി എല്ലാം തകർത്തു—കാറ്റ് മഞ്ഞുമൂടൽ പറത്തുന്നതുപോലെ.
