Adhyāya 10: Śrutakarmā’s Engagements; Prativindhya–Citra Duel; Drauṇi Advances toward Bhīma
स्वमनीकमवस्थाप्य बाहुवीर्यमुपाश्रित: । युद्ध्वा च सुचिरं काल॑ पाण्डवै: सह भारत
svamanīkam avasthāpya bāhuvīryam upāśritaḥ | yuddhvā ca suciraṃ kālaṃ pāṇḍavaiḥ saha bhārata ||
ഭാരതാ! തന്റെ സൈന്യവിഭാഗത്തെ ക്രമപ്പെടുത്തി, സ്വന്തം ഭുജവീര്യത്തെ ആശ്രയിച്ച്, ദുര്യോധനൻ പാണ്ഡവരോടൊപ്പം ദീർഘകാലം യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തു.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the kṣatriya ideal of steadfastness and personal valor in battle, while also implying the practical ethics of command—knowing when to sustain combat and when to withdraw troops as conditions (such as the onset of evening) require.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Duryodhana, after arranging his forces, fought the Pāṇḍavas for a long time relying on his own strength; in the surrounding context, as dusk arrived he directed the army to return to the camp.
