यह कर्ण महाथधनुर्धर, बुद्धिमान् और दृढ़तापूर्वक पराक्रम प्रकट करनेवाला है। यह पाण्डवोंकी सेनाओंमें जो श्रेष्ठ क्षत्रिय वीर हैं, उनका विनाश कर रहा है ।।
karṇaḥ mahā-dhanurdharaḥ buddhimān dṛḍhatayā parākramaṁ prakaṭayati; sa pāṇḍavānāṁ senāsu ye śreṣṭhāḥ kṣatriya-vīrāḥ, tān vināśayati. kirantaḥ śaravarṣāṇi mahānti dṛḍha-dhanvinaḥ; na śaknuvanty avasthātuṁ pīḍyamānāḥ śarārcīṣā.
ഈ കർണൻ മഹാധനുർധരൻ, ബുദ്ധിമാൻ, ദൃഢവിക്രമൻ; പാണ്ഡവസേനകളിലെ ശ്രേഷ്ഠ ക്ഷത്രിയവീരന്മാരെ അവൻ നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. അവന്റെ അമ്പുകളുടെ അഗ്നിതേജത്തിൽ ദഹിച്ച്, മഹത്തായ ശരവർഷം ചൊരിയുന്ന ദൃഢധന്വികളും യുദ്ധഭൂമിയിൽ നിലകൊള്ളാൻ കഴിയുന്നില്ല—ശരജ്വാലയുടെ പീഡയിൽ അവർക്ക് നിലനിൽപ്പില്ല.
