कर्णाटका महिषका विकल्पा मूषकास्तथा । झिल्लिका: कुन्तलाश्वैव सौहदा नभकानना:
karṇāṭakā mahiṣakā vikalpā mūṣakās tathā | jhillikāḥ kuntalāś caiva sauhadā nabhakānanāḥ ||
സഞ്ജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—തെക്കൻ ജനങ്ങളിൽ കർണാടകർ, മഹിഷകർ, വികൽപർ, മൂഷകർ; അതുപോലെ ഝില്ലികർ, കുന്തലർ, സൗഹദർ, നഭകാനന പ്രദേശവാസികളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇങ്ങനെ ദക്ഷിണാപഥത്തിലെ അനേകം ജനപദങ്ങളെ പരാമർശിച്ച്, കുരുക്ഷേത്രയുദ്ധം സർവ്വഭാരതീയ രാഷ്ട്രീയബന്ധങ്ങളെ സ്പർശിച്ചതെന്നും അതിന്റെ ധാർമ്മികഭാരവും അത്ര തന്നെ വ്യാപകമാണെന്നും മഹാകാവ്യം സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു।
