Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the political and ethical reality of war in the Mahābhārata: conflicts are sustained not only by individual heroes but by networks of allies—kinsmen, ministers, and regional rulers—showing how kingship and counsel (amātya) shape collective responsibility in dharma and adharma.

Sañjaya continues a battlefield report by listing prominent participants and supporting rulers: the Saindhava king (Jayadratha), described as a mighty archer, along with his ministers and relatives, and additional kings from eastern and southern regions.
