Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the war-time ethic of kṣatriya culture: steadfastness under threat and the public demand for courage. It also reveals how ‘manhood’ is invoked as a moral lever—an appeal that can inspire bravery but can also reduce ethical reflection to reputation and rage.

Sañjaya reports that Śveta confronts Bhīṣma on the battlefield, urging him to stand firm and face him. After issuing this challenge, Śveta advances against Bhīṣma with heroic intent, acting for the Pāṇḍavas’ benefit and against the Kaurava side.
