उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
इष्टा वाच: प्रसृता वायसानां सम्प्रस्थितानां च गमिष्यतां च । ये पृष्ठतस्ते त्वरयन्ति राजन् ये चाग्रतस्ते प्रतिषेधयन्ति
iṣṭā vācaḥ prasṛtā vāyasānāṃ samprasthitānāṃ ca gamiṣyatāṃ ca | ye pṛṣṭhatas te tvarayanti rājan ye cāgratas te pratiṣedhayanti ||
വ്യാസൻ പറഞ്ഞു— പുറപ്പെടുമ്പോഴോ പുറപ്പെടാൻ ഒരുങ്ങുമ്പോഴോ കാക്കകളുടെ ഇഷ്ടമായ വിളി ചുറ്റും പരന്നാൽ, അത് വിജയസൂചനയായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു। രാജാവേ, പിന്നിൽ നിന്ന് കരയുന്ന കാക്കകൾ സിദ്ധിയുടെ വാർത്ത അറിയിച്ച് വേഗത്തിൽ മുന്നോട്ട് പോകാൻ പ്രേരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ; മുന്നിൽ നിന്ന് കരയുന്നവ യുദ്ധയാത്രയിൽ നിന്ന് പിന്തിരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ തോന്നും।
