उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
विषमं जनयन्त्येत आक्रन्दजननं महत् । त्रिषु सर्वेषु नक्षत्रनक्षत्रेषु विशाम्पते । गृथ्र: सम्पतते शीर्ष जनयन् भयमुन्तमम्
viṣamaṃ janayanty ete ākrandajananaṃ mahat | triṣu sarveṣu nakṣatra-nakṣatreṣu viśāmpate | gṛdhraḥ sampatate śīrṣaṃ janayan bhayam uttamam ||
ഈ അപശകുനങ്ങൾ ഭയങ്കരമായ അസമതുലിതാവസ്ഥ സൃഷ്ടിച്ച് മഹാ ആർത്തനാദം ഉണർത്തുന്നു. ഹേ പ്രജാപതേ! ‘നക്ഷത്ര-സംഘങ്ങൾ’ എന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്ന മൂന്നു വിഭാഗങ്ങളിലുടനീളം ശിരോസ്ഥാനത്ത് കഴുകൻ പതിക്കുന്നത് പരമഭയം ജനിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ഇപ്പോൾ അത്തരം ദുഷ്ടയോഗം തന്നെ ഉദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു—ധർമ്മം ഹിംസാപരമായ അക്രമാവസ്ഥയിൽ മറഞ്ഞ് യുദ്ധത്തിൽ സംഹാരത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ദുർലക്ഷണം.
