Abhaya-Itihāsa: Karma, Indriyas, and the Non-sensory Brahman

Brāhmaṇī–Brāhmaṇa Saṃvāda

tatraiva ca nirudhyante pralaye bhūtabhāvane | tataḥ saṃjāyate gandhas tataḥ saṃjāyate rasaḥ |

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that during pralaya (cosmic dissolution) subtle principles remain latent and restrained, and at creation they re-emerge; even sensory qualities like smell (gandha) and taste (rasa) arise from that underlying, subtle source rather than being independent or permanent.

Vāyudeva is explaining a cosmological process: how, at dissolution, the constituents of experience are withdrawn and held within their causal basis, and how, when creation resumes, specific sense-qualities such as fragrance and taste manifest again from that same basis.
