भीष्म उवाच छत्रोपानहमेतत्‌ तु सूर्येणैतत्‌ प्रवर्तितम्‌ । पुण्यमेतद्िख्यातं त्रिषु लोकेषु भारत,भीष्मजी कहते हैं--भारत! छाता और जूता--इन दोनों वस्तुओंका प्राकट्य--छाता लगाने और जूता पहननेकी प्रथा सूर्यने ही जारी की है। इन वस्तुओंका दान तीनों लोकोंमें पवित्र बताया गया है

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca | chatropānaham etat tu sūryeṇaitat pravartitam | puṇyam etad ikhyātaṃ triṣu lokeṣu bhārata ||

Translation

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ ഭാരതാ! കുട ധരിക്കലും പാദുക (ചെരിപ്പ്) ധരിക്കലും എന്ന ആചാരം ആദ്യം സൂര്യനാണ് പ്രചരിപ്പിച്ചത്. ഈ രണ്ടും ദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നത് മൂന്നു ലോകങ്ങളിലും പുണ്യവും പവിത്രവുമായ കർമ്മമായി പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്।
