नक्षत्रेषु श्राद्धफलविधानम् (Śrāddha Outcomes According to Nakṣatras)

न देवतानां काचिद्धि समर्था जातवेदस: । एता हि शक्तास्तं गर्भ संधारयितुमोजसा,कारण यह था कि देवांगनाओंमें दूसरी कोई स्त्री अग्नि एवं रुद्रके उस तेजका भरण- पोषण करनेमें समर्थ नहीं थी और ये कृत्तिकाएँ अपनी शक्तिसे उस गर्भको भलीभाँति धारण-पोषण कर सकती थीं

na devatānāṃ kācid dhi samarthā jātavedasaḥ | etā hi śaktās taṃ garbhaṃ sandhārayitum ojasā ||

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ദേവസ്ത്രീകളിൽ ആരും ജാതവേദസ് (അഗ്നി)ന്റെ ആ ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന തേജസ്സിനെ ധരിക്കാൻ ശേഷിയുള്ളവരായിരുന്നില്ല; ഈ കൃത്തികകളേ തങ്ങളുടെ ഓജസ്സാൽ ആ ഗർഭത്തെ ധരിച്ചു പോഷിപ്പാൻ കഴിവുള്ളവരായിരുന്നു.

Power and responsibility must be matched with capacity: only those with the requisite strength and preparedness should be entrusted with sustaining or carrying intense force, otherwise harm results. The verse highlights discernment in assigning roles according to fitness (adhikāra).

Bhīṣma explains why the Kṛttikās were chosen to bear and nourish a divine embryo associated with Agni’s blazing energy: no other celestial woman could sustain that fiery potency, whereas the Kṛttikās could support it through their own ojas.
