Brāhmaṇa-vandana: Criteria for Veneration, Disciplined Speech, and Protective Kingship (अनुशासनपर्व, अध्याय ८)

न मे पिता प्रियतरो ब्राह्मणेभ्यस्तथाभवत्‌ । न मे पितु: पिता वापि ये चान्येडपि सुहृज्जना:

na me pitā priyataro brāhmaṇebhyas tathābhavat | na me pituḥ pitā vāpi ye cānye ’pi suhṛjjanāḥ |

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—എനിക്ക് ബ്രാഹ്മണന്മാരേക്കാൾ പ്രിയനായി എന്റെ പിതാവ് ഒരിക്കലും ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല; പിതാമഹനും അല്ല, മറ്റ് ഏതൊരു ഹിതൈഷി ബന്ധുവും അല്ല. ധർമ്മത്തെ നിലനിർത്തുന്ന പാത ഇതാണെന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞ്, വ്യക്തിപരമായ സ്നേഹബന്ധത്തേക്കാൾ ബ്രാഹ്മണന്മാരോടുള്ള ആദരവിനെയാണ് ഞാൻ എപ്പോഴും മുൻതൂക്കം നൽകിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.
