यज्ञशूरा दमे शूरा: सत्यशूरास्तथापरे । युद्धशूरास्तथैवोक्ता दानशूराश्ष मानवा:
bhīṣma uvāca | yajñaśūrā dame śūrāḥ satyaśūrās tathāpare | yuddhaśūrās tathaivoktā dānaśūrāś ca mānavāḥ | (buddhiśūrās tathā cānye kṣamāśūrās tathā pare) |
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—മനുഷ്യരിൽ ചിലർ യജ്ഞത്തിൽ ശൂരന്മാർ; ചിലർ ഇന്ദ്രിയസംയമത്തിൽ ധീരരായതിനാൽ ദമശൂരന്മാർ എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അതുപോലെ ചിലർ സത്യശൂരന്മാർ, ചിലർ യുദ്ധശൂരന്മാർ, ചിലർ ദാനശൂരന്മാർ; മറ്റുചിലർ ബുദ്ധിശൂരന്മാരും ക്ഷമാശൂരന്മാരുമെന്നു പ്രസിദ്ധർ.
